Nanping, China, October 18, 2026 -- The third sub-forum of the Conference on Zhu Xi’s Philosophy and Dialogue Among Diverse Civilizations and the Fifth Kaoting Forum was held in Nanping on October 17.

Organized by the Fujian Federation of Social Sciences and the Nanping Federation of Social Sciences, the sub-forum brought together experts and scholars from universities and research institutions, including Renmin University of China, Beijing Normal University, Zhejiang University, Xiamen University, the University of Hong Kong, and Liaoning University. Centered on the theme of “Zhu Xi’s Philosophy and Humanistic Care in the Digital-Intelligent Era”, participants drew on their respective fields of research to explore how Zhu Xi’s philosophical wisdom can help address the practical challenges of the digital-intelligent era while safeguarding and promoting humanistic care.

At the forum, 12 experts and scholars shared their insights and research findings. They included Lin Shangli, former president of Renmin University of China and dean of its National Academy of Development and Strategy; Han Zhen, chair of the Academic Committee at Beijing Normal University and a professor at the highest academic rank in China’s philosophy and social sciences; Xu Yongming, a Qiushi Distinguished Scholar at Zhejiang University and a recipient of the Chang Jiang Scholars Distinguished Professor title; and Zou Zhendong, executive director of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities and Arts at Xiamen University and director of its Center for Public Opinion Studies. Their presentations covered topics such as “Core and Form: The Evolution of China’s Political Structures in Sustaining the Continuity of Chinese Civilization”, “Using Zhu Xi’s Philosophy as a Method for Understanding Contemporary Issues in Today’s World”, “Building a Specialized Knowledge Base on Zhu Xi’s Philosophy on the 50-Billion-Character YunSiKu Q&A Platform”, and “Certainty in an Age of Uncertainty: Zhu Xi’s Ritual Order in the ‘Dialogue Box’”.

How can Zhu Xi’s philosophy inform education in the age of artificial intelligence? What insights can Zhu Xi’s philosophy offer in the age of AI? What is the significance of gewu zhizhi (the extension of knowledge through the investigation of things) for humanistic care in the digital-intelligent era? Experts and scholars also held in-depth discussions on topics including talent development in higher education in the digital age, the wisdom of ritual order and governance in the digital-intelligent era, and value formation in large AI models from the perspective of minbao wuyu (viewing all people as one’s kin and all things as one’s companions). These discussions further explored the contemporary relevance of China’s fine traditional culture and practical ways to foster the mutual development of technology and the humanities.
During the conference, three other parallel sub-forums were also held, focusing respectively on the theoretical integration and contemporary practice of Zhu Xi’s Philosophy and the “Two Integrations”; Zhu Xi’s Philosophy and Chinese wisdom for global governance; and the cultural heritage of Zhu Xi and cross-strait integrated development.
