Armadus is a programming-centric puzzle game with a sleek sci-fi aesthetic, leveraging Augmented Reality (AR) technologies in a novel way on both iOS and Android devices. Take control of young engineers Fernando and Andaiye as they explore the titular Armadus research station, bringing the station back online and solving the mystery of the sudden disappearance of its crew.

Partnering with award winning developer group SCIBERUS, two black-owned businesses brought their taletns together to serve a greater need in the gaming and educaitonal spaces, where they’d seen success, but not the representation they expected. “Where you’ll always see our competitors doing the same old thing, we will Armadus want to empower a world where our future leaders, neighbors, and workers have the ability to understand and solve some of the complex challenges of today and tomorrow, and to meet the demands of the dynamic and evolving workforce, building students’ skills, content knowledge, and fluency in STEM fields is essential. We must also make sure that no matter where children live, they have access to quality learning environments. A child’s zip code should not determine their STEM fluency”

By bringing both inclusion and interest to STEM through key Augmented Reality experiences via mobile phone, they hope to demistify the accessible technology, and are engaging readership in their independent comic book series to showcase Black Speculative Fiction and Sci-Fi storytelling as mainstream. The programming challenges within Armadus are fun for anyone interested in puzzle solving and logical reasoning, but it has the added benefit of teaching coding concepts. You’ll start with the basics of functional programming to fix the machines around the Armadus base, but by the end of the game, gamers have to use function calls, conditions, and even recursive calls to solve the challenges. The higher difficulty levels come with more restrictions, requiring players to push their programming skill to the limit. The concepts within Armadus are aligned with the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) standards, letting parents and educators advocae the fun adventure series knowing the practical knowledge translates to the classroom.

Currently, the closest thing to ARMADUS is repetitive Edtech templates that doesn’t interest or engage young audiences, or leverage future technologies succesfuly in their engagements away from the classroom. ARMADUS brings popular culture and Edtech together in a relevant and sustainable package. “Audiences from ARMADUS can expect to have a fun and engaging way to demistify computer science concepts, and see a representative story filled with intrigue, heart and authentic story,” Snead said. “I’ve always been a fan of science fiction, ever since I was a kid, As I grew older, it became more and more apparent that the characters I was emulating, inspired by and looking up to didn’t look like me. Some of the cultural queues were lost, and in some cases not addressed at all. Especially in STEM, where there’s a disproportionate amount of representation for Black and Brown kids.”. This alone is predicted to make ARMADUS a standout and more popular with customers in the gaming space, where parents are seeking to better utilize digital learning admist the pandemic and offer more quality programming with the increase of kid’s screen time.
