One Watsonville-based company recently received noteworthy recognition for its efforts to help the community. Justin White, CEO of K & D Landscaping, Inc. announced last week the local landscaping company is among the latest recipients of the Santa Cruz Volunteer Center's Be the Difference Award. This accolade recognizes groups, non-profits and businesses who voluntarily go the extra mile to make Santa Cruz County a healthier, happier community for its residents.

"At K & D Landscaping, we live by six core values: professionalism, teamwork, humility, respect, hunger and safety," said White. "Our very industry revolves around helping to keep homes and businesses in our area beautiful through our landscape planning, development and maintenance services, but our team has a desire to go beyond those efforts. Our passion for landscaping and hunger for improving our neighborhoods led us to find more ways of engaging our communities and making them better places to live. This is what sparked our ongoing Community Beautification Project and was ultimately responsible for us receiving this award."

K & D Landscaping has used its landscaping knowledge and experience to foster a number of volunteer projects throughout the communities it serves. One of the projects in the company's time line was Chanticleer Park in Live Oak, also known as Leo's Haven. White and other members of the K & D team combined their time and resources with those of eight other landscaping companies to bring the project to fruition.

The Aptos Village Park Community Beautification is among the company's growing list of projects as well. In this undertaking, K & D took on the issues of inadequate irrigation, outdated landscaping and soil erosion. Among the solutions put into play by the company were drought-tolerant plants, a rock retaining wall and improved overall sustainability throughout the park.

Concluded White, "We're proud to have a hand in keeping our neighborhoods beautiful. From the Landscaping Maintenance services we offer our clients to our volunteer efforts to improve local parks and women's and children's shelters and creating garden boxes for schools in our communities, everything we do revolves around enhancing the neighborhoods in which we live and work. Our team encourages anyone in our area with a beautification idea in mind to contact us, and we look forward to the projects we'll be completing in the future."
