His acclaimed career in medicine began after he earned his medical degree from the Columbia University Roy and Diana Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1986. He then went on to perform his residency in surgery at Mount Sinai Morningside in 1991, and his fellowship in thoracic surgery at SUNY Health Science Center in Syracuse in 1993.
With expertise reigning heavily in the world of heart disease, Dr. Brevig is board-certified in thoracic and cardiac surgery by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery (ABTS). The ABTS is an American surgical organization devoted to surgery of the chest.
On a professional level, he is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and the Western Thoracic Surgeons Association.
