A digital savings directory is offering local businesses in Chattanooga a new service that allows them to offer custom gift certificates without the need to hire a designer or printer.

Savings Sites of Chattanooga is offering local businesses an opportunity to reach individuals who have already expressed interest in their product or service with accurate targeted offerings. This is done through the company’s Short Notice Alert Program (SNAP), which can filter coupons based on the preferences of individual customers.
Apart from businesses, the company is allowing consumers, organizations, schools, and municipalities to register to the service without cost.
SNAP enables business owners to text or email thousands of intended customers for free and at their preferred time for checking offers. The company said it is capable of reaching 90% of “permission-granted” email inboxes with various gift certificates and offers several times a month.
The system is capable of this level of customization because consumers who register are asked to indicate their availability and the minimum amount of discount they are interested in.
Using SNAP, the business owner controls the number of coupons, the value of the discount, and the terms of redemption. The system provides a gift certificate ID that allows the issuing business to set a maximum number of coupons.
The system also enables businesses to earn more through purchases above the redemption value. This means that the promoted discount can appear bigger than the actual discount given because purchases over the redemption value are not covered.
For example, a $50 certificate bought for $40 provides a 20% discount. But if the customer makes a purchase worth $100, the discount will only equal to 10% as the offer only applies to the first $50.
When asked how it earns despite offering a free service, the company explained that its revenue comes from a small claiming fee that customers pay when redeeming the coupon. This amount is shared with local organizations that encourage their members to utilize the system.
“Savings Sites could be called a town newspaper, except that it is totally digital,” a company spokesperson said. “It can zero in on the people who are already interested in a product or service, so business owners can rest assured they are reaching their desired market.”
