Minimally Invasive Surgeries and Facial Rejuvenations Fueled 8% Growth

September 6, 2016 /MarketersMedia/ —

2016 continues on with many positive economic indicators for G8 Nations around the world. Just as Industries such as retail, auto and manufacturing saw slight gains in 2015 - as did the cosmetic surgery industry. According to the initial statistics released by the American Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, some 47.6 million surgical and non-surgical plastic surgery procedures were performed last year, up 8 percent since 2014. In addition, some 17.5 million reconstructive procedures were also performed in 2015, up nearly three percent.

“International economic statistics are a good co-indicator for tracking medical tourists” said Thai Medical Vacation Vice President Harrison O’Conner. "For the sixth consecutive year, we have tracked international statistics to show non-surgical cosmetic surgery requests outnumber surgical procedures, while traditional plastic surgeries grow but at a much slower pace. This could be due attributed to financing abilities of a younger demographics that we encounter. Younger people also generally do not require surgical alternations. Older patients however still request surgical options over newer non-surgical options such as the stem cell facelift."

Minimally Invasive Cosmetic Surgeries increased by nearly 8.4 percent, with more than 52.6 million procedures in 2015. The five most request minimally invasive surgeries last year were:

• Botulinum "Botox Type A" (27.1 million procedures, up 8 percent)
• Soft tissue and Dermal fillers (11.6 million procedures, up 6 percent)
• Chemical Face peel (5.9 million procedures, up 5 percent)
• Laser hair removal (4.5 million procedures, up 7 percent)
• Microdermabrasion (3.5 million procedures, up 5 percent)

Surgical Aesthetic Enhancements increased by 4 percent, with nearly 12.7 million procedures in 2015.

The top five surgical procedures were:
• Breast augmentation using implants (5.5 million procedures, up 5 percent)
• Nose reshaping (3.1 million procedures, up 3.5 percent)
• Eyelid surgeries (2.4 million procedures, up 4 percent)
• Liposuction (1.1 million procedures, up 3 percent)
• Facelift (560,000 procedures, up 5 percent)

Popular surgical alternatives such as breast augmentation and breast lifts (5.4 million procedures, up 5 percent) from last year, while gynecomastia or male breast reduction also increased as nearly 550,000 men performed chest liposuction or excision surgery, up 3 percent.

Breast augmentations and body shaping procedures like tummy tucks and liposuction are typically the most popular procedures each year including 2015” said Mr. O’Conner. “Hair restoration and RFAL FACEtite therapy are also amongst the most popular and painless treatments to eradicate shallow wrinkles and tighten sagging skin. We have also noticed more men medical tourists than previous years.”
